Big Sky Civil in partnership with Montana Civil Contractors has been awarded the CMAR contract to rebuild the Laprele Dam near Douglas WY. The LaPrele Dam Replacement Project involves the complete reconstruction of the existing dam, which has been largely demolished. The new dam will be constructed using roller-compacted concrete (RCC) and will include upgraded outlet works, a new spillway structure, and associated facilities. Major components of the project include excavation to competent foundation rock, foundation treatment (e.g., drilling and grouting), diversion and control of LaPrele Creek, and installation of mechanical and electrical systems. The project also includes construction access roads, staging areas, environmental protections, and permanent site restoration. CMAR is responsible for providing constructability input during design and for managing construction risk under a Guaranteed Maximum Price. The project is located in a narrow canyon with seasonal hydrologic challenges and limited access.
